TWO DEAD AT KNIGHT TRANSPORTATION'S TEXAS CENTER AFTER FORMER EMPLOYEE OPENS FIRE

Two people are confirmed dead and two others injured Wednesday morning after a recently terminated employee opened fired at a Knight Transportation center located in Katy, Texas, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
At 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, the sheriff’s department received a call regarding shots fired at Knight Transportation. Harrison County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that an employee who was terminated two weeks ago opened fire on multiple employees. The gunman was carrying a shotgun and a pistol, but only the shotgun was used.

The shooter is one of the two dead, as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The other person killed was a Knight Transportation employee. During a press conference, Sheriff Ron Hickman speculated the employee who was shot was a supervisor. A Harris County Deputy sustained a knee injury while entering the property. The second victim was present during the time of the shooting when a projectile nicked the victim’s face.
No more information about the victims or the suspect is known as of press time.
Nearby schools were put on lockdown as law enforcement investigated the scene. The lockdown was lifted after law enforcement cleared the scene.
Knight Transportation released the following statement late Wednesday afternoon:
It is with deep sadness that we confirm a shooting at our Katy, Texas facility, and the death of a Knight Transportation employee. Our deepest sympathies are with the family during this difficult time.
This was the action of a lone former employee, who also died as a result of today’s events. One other employee was confirmed to have injuries, and was treated at the scene and released.
We appreciate the quick response of authorities and are closely monitoring the situation. Knight is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of all of its employees. Counselors will be on site to support our employees. We have suspended all work at our Katy facility pending completion of the investigation.
