TRUCKER KILLED WHILE DELIVERING TO PACKAGING COMPANY

A truck driver from North Carolina was killed when the cardboard material he was delivering fell out of the trailer and crushed him on Monday, May 23 at Greif Inc. in Gladstone, Va.
Eugene Boone, 63, of Charlotte, N.C., was pronounced dead before making it to the hospital, authorities said. Boone worked for Cowan Systems.
“He arrived loaded at the facility to drop off paper product,” Amherst County Sheriff’s Dept. Capt. John Grieser said. “Apparently when he opened the doors, his load had shifted in the back and one of the paper bales fell out and crushed him.”
Grieser said he wasn’t sure how much the bale weighed, but he was estimating that it was more than 1,000 pounds.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration will investigate the matter.
“We’re ruling it as an accidental death as far as for legal purposes,” Grieser said. “But if there’s any negligence as far as the load was concerned, OSHA will determine what happened with that from a civil perspective.”
