HAMILTON, Ont. — The Truck Training Schools Association of Ontario (TTSAO) has announced it is finally endorsing the Ministry of Ontario’s draft standards on Mandatory Entry Level Driver Training (MELT) in Ontario.
At first, the TTSAO did not want to endorse the draft as it was, but after several meetings with MTO, senior representatives from MTO have committed to have all issues raised by TTSAO addressed before MELT is implemented in 2017. In an earlier press release, the TTSAO said it would not endorse the draft standard unless things like night time training, verification of training hours and instructor qualification criteria were addressed.
“The MTO has been great to work with throughout this entire process,” said Mike Millian, president of the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada and TTSAO board member. “Their engagement will all the stakeholder has been appreciated, and necessary to ensure this standard was as close to perfect as possible. Their recent response to the TTSAO’s concerns was appreciated, and showed their commitment to ongoing engagement with all stakeholders. We look forward to continuing to work with the MTO on MELT going forward.”
