If “Dandy Don” was still alive and was watching diesel prices, he’d probably sing the tune again because the average on-highway price of a gallon of diesel has gone up 28 cents a gallon since mid-February and there doesn’t appear to be an end to what have become weekly increases.
According to the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy, the average price went up 6.8 cents a gallon to $2.266 for the week ending May 2.
The higher prices have — naturally — come in conjunction with a spike in oil prices.
Every region of the country showed a price increase for the week ending May 2.
Three regions showed price increases of 7 cents or more — the Midwest (7.6 cents), West Coast (7.5 cents) and he Lower Atlantic (7.3 cents).
The smallest increase was in the New England states at 4.3 cents.
The May 2 price is 58.5 cents a gallon lower than one year ago.
