CANADIAN FREIGHT VOLUMES DROP IN APRIL

TORONTO, Ont. — Volumes for Canadian and cross-border loads slowed in April after three consecutive months of improvement according to TransCore Link Logistics.
This slowdown in April is typical, TransCore said. Compared to last month, volumes receded 12%. Year-over-year volumes were down 17% compared to April 2015.

In addition, intra-Canada load volumes represented 27% of the total volumes and dipped slightly by two percent year-over-year. Cross-border loads averaged 69% of the total data submitted by Loadlink’s Canadian-based customers. Loads leaving Canada were lower by 6%, and loads coming into Canada decreased 27% year-over-year. And posted equipment was flat month-over-month, but these postings represent a 13% increase year-over-year, TransCore said. The equipment-to-load ratio increased to 3.47 from 3.05 in March. Year-over-year, this ratio increased from 2.50 in April 2015, representing a 39% change.
