The Women In Trucking Association’s (WIT) has named Shelley Simpson as the winner of the 2016 WIT Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award.Simpson received the award during this week’s Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) 2016 “Capital Ideas” Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas. The award is co-sponsored by TMW and Truckstop.com.
Simpson was chosen among three finalists for the second annual award. The other finalists included Elizabeth Fretheim, director of Logistics Sustainability at Walmart, and Liz Lasater, CEO of Red Arrow Logistics.
Simpson is the executive vice president, chief marketing officer and president of Integrated Capacity Solutions and Truckload for J.B. Hunt. Her accomplishments include increasing revenue for J.B. Hunt from $4.5 billion to $6.2 billion over five years and leading her business unit to a nearly billion-dollar entity through strategic guidance and innovative ideas.
The business unit is now among the top five of third-party logistics companies in the trucking industry. Simpson holds several board positions and is involved with Women in Supply Chain Excellence at the University of Arkansas, her alma mater.
“Shelley is the epitome of creating opportunity for women and for everyone in the workspace,” said Truckstop.com Chief Marketing Officer Brent Hutto, who presented the award. “She is a champion to everyone who wants to succeed. It is fantastic to have someone like Shelley win this award.”

The Distinguished Woman in Logistics award was established to promote the achievements of women employed in the North American transportation industry. It highlights the vital roles of women in the dynamic and influential field of commercial transportation and logistics.
