TORONTO, ON — Ontario will soon form a “new ultra-low-carbon utility” agency mandated to reduce carbon emissions, and may even push the trucking industry toward a more widespread use of natural gas, The Globe and Mail newspaper reported Wednesday.
The national newspaper obtained an advance draft of Ontario’s newest Climate Change Action plan, set to be released in May.
While natural gas fleets have become more popular with waste management companies, public transit and other municipal fleets, Ontario’s trucking firms have been slower on the uptake of the cleaner-burning fuel.
Earlier in 2016, FCA Transport LLC (formerly Chrysler Group Transport LLC) finished converting its 179 Peterbilt-leased tractors to natural gas at a cost of at least $40 million.
