AVERAGE PRICE OF DIESEL UP 3.3 CENTS TO $2.198

WASHINGTON — The average on-highway price of a gallon of diesel climbed 3.3 cents to $2.198 a gallon for the week ending April 25, according to the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy.


It was the second consecutive week of 3 cent-plus increases; the price for the week ending was $2.165, a climb of 3.7 cents over the previous week.
The average price has now risen 21.8 cents a gallon since it bottomed out at $1.98 for the weekend ending February 15 in the wake of falling oil prices, which stood at $29.05 a barrel.
Monday, benchmark U.S. crude fell $1.09, or 2.5 percent, to $42.64 a barrel in New York.
Every region of the country posted a price increase for the week ending April 25 with the largest a 4.4-cent hike in the Midwest and a 3.9-cent increase in California.
The New England states showed the most modest increase at four tenths of a penny.
