LONDON, Ont. – Operation Corridor put on by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation (MTO) on June 16 was a rather successful 24 hours.
The OPP issued 52 distracted driving charges, 37 seat belt charges, 15 speeding charges, among others, while the MTO completed 48 inspections and took 11 vehicles out of service.
“These numbers are reflective of the ongoing issues we see in collisions involving commercial motor vehicles,” explained Inspector Lisa Anderson, of the OPP’s West Region.
During the blitz, OPP said it pulled up to one truck driver who made an offensive hand gesture while talking on his cell phone. The driver was charged for distracted driving.
OPP said they also stopped one driver who received two cell phone violations in less than an hour.
Operation Corridor focuses on commercial vehicle safety and “validates a need for further joint initiatives throughout the year to enhance safety pertaining to commercial vehicles” according to Inspector Paul Bedard, of the OPP’s East Region.
