“As a former governor, I can tell you there’s nothing more persuasive than hearing from engaged, active constituents,” said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. “Our hope is that by coming here to Washington, these LEAD ATA participants will not just educate their representatives this week, but continue the dialogue on behalf of ATA and this industry for many years to come.”

Before meeting with their representatives, LEAD ATA participants spoke to staff from ATA’s Capitol Hill office about a variety of topics ranging from the legislative process and the importance of committee appointments, to how to educate lawmakers and the value of grassroots engagement. As the first LEAD ATA class to convene during a presidential election cycle, this year’s participants have a unique opportunity to engage with congressional leaders during a critical time in the country’s history.
“We’ve spent time over the course of this year teaching the LEAD ATA class about ATA and its efforts on Capitol Hill. Now, they’ll have an opportunity to put some of their new tools to use in order to advance trucking’s legislative agenda,” said ATA Vice Chairman Dave Manning, president of TCW Inc. “Learning about how to effectively communicate your message on Capitol Hill, to me, is critical, because what happens in Washington can have a real impact on a business’s bottom line.”
LEAD ATA, sponsored by PeopleNet, is a one-year program created to involve the trucking industry’s best and brightest and prepare them to become our leaders of tomorrow. Participants gain real-world experience and in-depth industry insights not available through any other program. Interested trucking industry professionals can apply online for consideration as part of next year’s class of LEAD ATA.
