GREENSBORO, NC — A new Volvo Trucks recall is targeting certain 2016 and 2017 model year trucks due to a problem with the two-piece driving shaft.
There are some 2,800 affected trucks in Canada and 15,800 in the U.S. Volvo is advising drivers to take them out of service immediately.
The latest recall is very similar to a driving shaft recall launched in November 2015. Affected vehicles had a connecting bolt that could come loose in the two-piece steering shaft.
"Some of the incidents reported most recently involved trucks in which the torque situation had already been addressed," Volvo Trucks spokesperson Jon Mies told Today's Trucking. "We have also stopped delivery of any vehicles equipped with the component. We will replace all the two-piece shafts with a one-piece shaft as soon as the parts are available," Mies added.
Volvo Trucks is keeping NHTSA and Transport Canada advised as it addresses the issue.
