UTILITY TRAILER RECEIVES TTMA PLANT SAFETY AWARD

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company announced June 7 that it was the recipient of the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association’s (TTMA) Plant Safety Award.
Utility manufactures refrigerated trailers, dry freight vans, flatbeds and Tautliner curtain-sided trailers. The company’s Clearfield, Utah plant was presented with the TTMA’s Category A 2015 Plant Safety Award, which is given to the large trailer manufacturer, with over 750,000 work hours, with the best overall safety record for cases with lost days.

“We couldn’t have achieved this award without the continuous focus by our employees on safety,” said Bob Griffis, corporate environmental health and safety manager for Utility Trailer. “We appreciate everyone’s efforts.”
Utility said that in 2015 it had a lost-day case rate of 0.15, representing two lost day cases out of over 1,130 employees, with over 2.7 million hours worked.
“Our safety record is the result of a continuing emphasis by all our employees on preventing and managing incidents, and the company’s comprehensive Return to Work program,” said Todd Smith, Utility’s Clearfield plant manager. “We are honoured to have the hard work of our employees recognized by our peers at TTMA.”
The award has been handed out for 44 years, with this being the fifth Category A award won by Utility Trailer since 2005.
Presenting the award to Smith and the plant’s employees, Utility chairman and CEO Paul Bennett said, “It is a pleasure being able to present this safety award to Todd and the rest of his team, and to be able to celebrate this achievement with them. Only one plant in our trailer industry receives this annual award, and the owners of Utility Trailer are proud of each and every employee whose hard work not only builds the best refrigerated trailers in the industry, but also creates a safe working environment.”
