The so-called Super Bowl of show truck competitions will converge on Joplin, Mo., July 9-11.
Shell Rotella SuperRigs will be holding the 34th annual competition at the Joplin Convention and Trade Center and throughout the three-day event will also be partnering with FastPort to honor the men and women who serve in the U.S. armed forces.
Judging of the working show trucks will be from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 10, and from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11. Awards will follow at 2 p.m. The event is free for contestants to enter and for the public to attend.
Contestants can register online or on-site and choose when they want to be judged throughout the event. This is not a rags-down competition.
Trucks entered in SuperRigs are judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications or broadcast companies. The judges – who include Land Line Magazine Managing Editor Jami Jones – score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. This year is Jones’ 14th year judging the event.
Friday evening the competitors will head out and convert downtown Joplin into a massive street party. There is time for the public to see the rigs up close and personal and talk to the truck owners. The “best lights” competition will also be judged during the 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. street party.
