HEAVY DUTY TRUCKING TEAM FINALISTS FOR FOUR JOURNALISM AWARDS

Heavy Duty Trucking editors have been named finalists in four categories in the 2016 Jesse H. Neal Business Journalism Awards, which reward excellence in journalism for business-to-business media.

The Neal Awards were created by the American Business Media association (now named Connectiv) in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business publications covering fields such as agriculture, medicine, finance, engineering, aviation, education, marketing, construction, architecture, marketing and more. There are four finalists in each category.

VOLVO MARKET SHARE UP 1% IN CANADA FOR 2015

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Volvo posted record results in Canada over 2015 with its market share climbing one percentage point to 16.3 percent (4,884 vehicles) compared with 4,510 vehicles in 2014, according to data compiled by the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association, IHS Automotive and Wards.

VOLVO TRUCKS ACHIEVES RECORD NORTH AMERICAN RESULTS IN 2015

Volvo Trucks North America posted record results achieving all-time highs in 2015 for U.S., Canada and NAFTA Class 8 retail sales.
Volvo U.S. retail market share was a record 12.4 percent in 2015 — 0.4 percentage points higher than in 2014, with a retail volume of 30,930 vehicles compared with 26,555 in 2014, according to Wards Auto Group.

TCA HONORS TRUCKING COMPANIES FOR SAFE DRIVING RECORDS

Seventeen trucking companies in six divisions have been recognized by the Truckload Carriers Association for their safety records, and two will eventually be chosen as grand prize winners later this year.
The TCA Monday (Feb. 1) announced the division winners for its annual National Fleet Safety Awards. Sponsored by Great West Casualty Company, the awards honor trucking companies that demonstrate a superior commitment to safety and accident reduction.

VOLVO POSTS RECORD NORTH AMERICAN RESULTS IN 2015

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Volvo Trucks North America announced today that it has posted record results achieveing all-time highs in 2015 for US, Canada and NAFTA Class 8 retail sales.

Volvo also reached record penetration levels for Volvo power, I-Shift automated manual transmissions and XE eXceptional Efficiency powertrain packages.

THE DRIVER SHORTAGE ALARM

Trucking has trumpeted a driver shortage over most of the last 10 years and beyond. Major studies by the American Trucking Associations have generated much coverage inside and outside the industry, making the idea an unquestioned assumption.

Yet during the last decade, driver pay hasn’t risen in a way that would reflect such a strong labor demand. And some forecasts have turned out much less drastic than predicted.

U.S. DIESEL AVERAGE DROPS 4 CENTS, NEARS $2 THRESHOLD

A 4-cent drop in the country’s national average price of diesel fuel in the most recent week has the U.S. average at $2.031 per gallon, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report.

This is the lowest diesel has been since the week of March 16, 2009, and if prices continue to drop as they have, next week could potentially see prices drop below $2 per gallon for the first time since February 2005.
